As you read this, Secretary Zinke of the Department of Interior, is planning to lease areas of the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of New Jersey to oil companies for off-shore drilling.  Setting up drilling operations off our coast is an invitation to a man made disaster that would dwarf Sandy recovery and impact every aspect of our life.  An oil spill off our coast could decimate our tourism and fishing industries.  Maybe you own a home or business on the shore.  Maybe you look forward to visiting our beaches in the summer. Even with out the disaster of a spill – there’s still the disasters brought by extreme weather and climate change.   We don’t need the additional pollution from extraction process, or more oil at a time when solar or wind energy are gaining steam and are more affordable.  This is bad business no matter how you look at it, and our shore is at stake.

Add your voice and your story – we can’t make it easy for the Department of Interior to destroy our community. Take Action!

The Bureau of Ocean and Energy Management (BOEM) is collecting comments on this plan – UNTIL MARCH 9th.  To leave a comment, CLICK HERE or on the link below now

Here are some tips on leaving an effective comment, AND when you’re done – cut and paste it!  Share on FACEBOOK and ask others to comment, send to your local paper as a LETTER TO THE EDITOR.

•  State that you are writing in opposition to the “2019-2024 Draft Proposed Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program”

•  Be specific about your life, business, and experience – if you live near the ocean or bay, how close? How might this affect your home, property value, business, or something else?

•  How would this affect your ability to recreationally use the ocean?

•  If you have specific facts or experiences to add, then do so.

THEN!  Take your comment, share on FB and tag us, send as a letter to the editor, encourage others to take action!

•  Give a non-specific impact risk (ex. Oil drilling will hurt the environment)

We have included some additional resources below in .pdf format that will be useful when you leave a comment.  They include additional facts and information on off-shore oil drilling.

Thank You!
