RISING WATERS, EXTREME WEATHER AND CLIMATE JUSTICE

New Jersey residents are vulnerable to extreme weather and flooding.  As a measure, over the last 40 years, we have received nearly 6 billion dollars in payouts from residents who are part of the National Flood Insurance Program in 95% of New Jersey’s municipalities.  Superstorm Sandy exposed that vulnerability and the fact that our state does not have a coordinated plan to address sea level rise.  We lost millions of dollars in a HUD sponsored contest that could have gone to addressing these challenges because of this.

We’re working to better prepare us for rising seas and future storms and to ensure state and federal disaster recovery programs work for families who face disaster not big insurance corporations, banks, and connected contractors.
